Crack
Having a problem in updating the firmware on the IVIEW 3500STBII, this is the one without the 3/4 switch. The problem is with the EPG display so Iview told me to use the following firmware update:
IVIEW-3500STBII_Support QAM PSIP 1506/1508/1509/1511/1601/1603/1706 5.5 MB 05/24/2017
The serial on mine is numbered: 1704-3500STBII- and when trying to do the update get the message:
Software Update Error
And on the info screen have the following:
IVIEW-3500STBII
SW Version:Mar 18 2017 09:24:45
HW Version:MSD7802-ATSC-18 A1
This will be the second box that I have with the problem, first one I purchased on 06/02/17 and place of purchase did an RMA and I received new one today, and still have the EPG problem. Plus still refuses the update that iview stated would fix problem.
Both boxes have the same info of:
IVIEW-3500STBII
SW Version:Mar 18 2017 09:24:45
HW Version:MSD7802-ATSC-18 A1
Only thing different is last part of serial number, both from same manufacture batch it seems. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
I do have pics that can be uploaded if need be.
Thanks

Hi lafatlife,
Thank you for the reply. What is the beginning part of your serial number? Mine is 1704.

Just curious .. have you tried any of the previous firmware versions. I had success with downgrading firmware on other iViews. YMMV

Iview states there is no other version of software available for this box. Very strange they don't have a software / firmware upgrade for the 1704 serial number, but do for these:
1506/1508/1509/1511/1601/1603/1706

Received another box in replacement for non-working unit, exactly same problem as the other ones. Got the extended warranty on it, just in case. Hopefully they will come up with some new software that will correct the problems.

Hmm, makes me wonder how I'm going to fare when I eventually(?) hook up my 3500STBII. I bought it a 2 or 3 (?) years ago, serial # starts 1404 and it has the 3/4 channel switch on it. Solid Signal had a special on them...I'm *still* waiting to try it out as we are still tied to a satellite and the satellite receiver's DVR is just too easy to use for now. I may carry it to work with me and tinker with it to see how it performs.

OK I realize this is a very late reply, but just in case it might help someone:
iVIEW's firmware updates are needlessly confusing. They're usually .RAR's or .ZIP's containing two files: 'usb_upgrade_all_flash.bin' and 'flash.bin.' But you only need the first file, with the long name. You can delete the 'flash.bin' one.
You must save usb_upgrade_all_flash.bin to a FAT32-formatted flash drive. Other file systems like NTFS and exFAT won't work; you'll need to reformat those to FAT32. Ironically the iVIEW itself can do the job. Plug the flash drive in and press Menu, then go to USB / PVR Configure / Format. Make sure FAT32 is selected as the file system and press OK. Once it's formatted, plug it into your PC and copy usb_upgrade_all_flash.bin to its root directory. Then you can eject it, plug it back into the iVIEW, and update the firmware.
iVIEW is wrong about which firmware versions will work with your 3500STBII. All the following firmware versions are compatible with 3500STBIIs with serial numbers starting with 1510 or greater:
http://www.iviewus.com/download/firm...PGFix_1511.rar
http://www.iviewus.com/download/firm...STBII_1604.zip
http://www.iviewus.com/download/firm...I_20170524.rar
http://www.iviewus.com/download/firm...I_20170928.rar
The third one is the one iVIEW sent you. But personally I prefer the first one even though it's the oldest of the four.

Thank you for the reply JHBrandt. I tried with the version you suggested, but get the same message about software upgrade error as in the photo I previously posted. Have tried to contact iview again about correcting the problem, but no answer at all from them.

Sorry; often it's hard to tell exactly what's wrong from afar.
Perhaps a picture will help, so I'm attaching a directory listing and 'Properties' dialog of an old USB drive I use to update iVIEW firmware. (I'm using Windows 7; if you have a newer Windows version yours may look somewhat different.) You can see I have several directories in the root directory, but the only file is the firmware update file. (Yours will probably have no directories, or maybe one; that's OK.) That way I can't mess up; when I select 'Software Update' from the menu, it's the only file listed.
(BTW, I have several firmware versions, so I renamed my update file to add the version number. The iView doesn't care, but having everything named 'usb_upgrade_all_flash.bin' is just too confusing for me.)
If yours looks like mine but still won't work, try clicking 'Tools' on the properties dialog and checking the drive for errors with Windows. There could be a problem with your thumb drive that's keeping the iVIEW from reading the update file.

Have tried different drives and still same error. The serial number on the box is > 1704 which I can not find anywhere on the iview site. I have 2 other boxes but with different serials than the problem one and they all allowed the flash, just this one and it has been replaced twice. But they keep sending the same serial number version. Almost like they have flash inhibit enabled

Interesting! Since your other iVIEW boxes update OK, you must be doing it right. There's no reason one iVIEW should require a different procedure than the others.
It's starting to sound to me like the particular firmware version on that one box (dated Mar 18 2017, which I've never seen on iVIEW's web site) has a bug that prevents updating the firmware; a Catch-22 since they keep replacing your boxes with others with the same buggy firmware.
There may be a way to work around the bug by hacking the script at the start of the update file; but first, let me experiment on a box I wouldn't mind bricking too much.

I'm still working on the firmware update question, but I have an answer to this other question (which you won't like): you cannot set the time manually on the iVIEW. The time is always set by a signal from the station you tune to, which means if the time is wrong, your only recourse is to tune to another station.
Most TV stations have reasonably accurate time, and the iVIEW will normally keep time (once it's set correctly) and turn itself on for scheduled recordings. But it's also not rare for stations to broadcast an incorrect time. You can see what time the iVIEW thinks it is in the info-box that comes up whenever you change channels, so you should be able to tell whether any stations in your area are broadcasting an incorrect time.
As for the 'it is always off' part, I'm guessing you're saying it isn't turning itself on for scheduled recordings as it should. That could be another firmware bug besides the garbled-guide-descriptions bug and the cannot-update-the-buggy-firmware bug! The only workaround I can think of would be to always leave the iVIEW on, and turn off the TV instead, which may not be very appealing.
Finally, 'I can't scan channels above 63.' Luckily, there's no need - the channel number you see (called the 'display' or 'virtual' channel) when you watch a station may go as high as 69, but the channel number you scan (called the 'RF channel') is often different, and always between 2 and 51.

I know this is getting to be an 'old' thread, but any luck on finding a way to update the firmware on this unit? Would really like to use it without the problems it has. And of course, still no reply from iview about a fix.

Not that it helps you now -- but maybe it helps for others in the future. The forum has a 'test post area' where you can make a couple of posts to get you the rest of the way you need. :-)

I just emailed the file. Let me know if it gets through Gmail and if your iView will accept it.

Went through gmail with no problem and did load in. Only problem is that it does a channel scan but finds zero channels.

Oh, man; now I feel bad.
This happened to me once before, when I was trying to help someone with very buggy eMatic firmware. He also had a HomeWorX, which meant he had a HomeWorX remote control, so I sent him a copy of HomeWorX firmware to load onto his eMatic. IIRC it did the same thing; everything worked (using the HomeWorX remote) except for the tuner.
Eventually I found another version of HomeWorX firmware that did

work, but it took me about a year to find that version.
So I hope the firmware version iView sent you will load onto your box now, and will work. iView hasn't put any new firmware on their Web site since Sept. 2017.
